The Path to Perseverance Scholarship recognizes the strength of disabled young people across the United States. These students, upon being diagnosed with life-changing disabilities, not only have to learn how to live with new limitations but also have to fight tooth and nail to have insurers recognize their need for support.
This year, the ERISA insurance lawyer team at J. Price McNamara: Disability, Life, AD&D Insurance Attorneys wants to congratulate Abagale Berger on receiving The Path to Perseverance Scholarship in 2025. Berger’s application stood out from the rest, painting a picture of a resilient young woman with big plans for her future.
Who is Abagale Berger?
Abagale Berger is a Psychological & Brain Sciences major at Washington University in St. Louis. She’s set to graduate in May 2026. She’s currently minoring in writing and legal studies and has taken a number of courses on Russian literature and law.
In those studies, she discovered a passion for presentations of morality, redemption, and justice as presented on the page. She takes particular interest in the work of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, finding bridges between literary commentary on justice and real-life examples.

Berger’s Volunteer Efforts and Extracurriculars
Berger does more than study, though. She is a member of Chi Omega Tau Mu at Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked as the sorority’s Philanthropy and Community Services Director. She was also the organization’s Facilities Manager and a member of its Sisterhood Support Team.
These roles made it easier for Berger to turn the sorority’s attention toward community outreach. She’s recently hosted a series of events designed to raise funds for Missouri and Kansas’s Make-A-Wish organizations. These organizations make it possible for young people to see their dreams come true, no matter what health concerns might stand in their way.
Currently, Berger is serving as the Vice President of Internal Operations for the Women’s Panhellenic Association at her university. If that’s not enough, she’s also dedicated hours of her time to outreach efforts with her local addiction recovery center.
What to Expect Next From Berger
Berger’s graduation might be right around the corner, but she has big dreams for her future. She intends to study law at Washington University School of Law. After completing her J.D., she plans on pursuing a career in health law. She wants to ensure that patients are more than statistics and receive the personalized care they need to address their most pressing concerns.
In Berger’s own words, “As I once fought to be heard in my own struggle to receive a diagnosis, I want to fight for the voices of others who have been dismissed.”

About The Path to Perseverance Scholarship
J. Price McNamara: Disability, Life, AD&D Insurance Attorneys, previously known as The Law Offices of J. Price McNamara and ERISA Insurance Claim Attorneys, proudly offers our The Path to Perseverance Scholarship to students living with disabilities.
Applicants have an innate understanding of the unjust ways insurers can misrepresent the nature of their medical conditions to deny them the benefits that they’re owed. Our team aims to use The Path to Perseverance Scholarship to put power back into these students’ hands, specifically by helping them achieve their professional and academic goals.
Students can craft essays of up to 1,000 words describing their medical conditions and experiences fighting for benefits. The scholarship selection committee will then choose a scholarship winner based on each applicant’s experience with perseverance. The winner will receive $2,500 to dedicate toward their continued studies.
