What’s in a Denial Letter?

When it comes to appealing a denial of long-term disability benefits, the first step you should take is to thoroughly review the denial letter which you received from your insurance company. When an insurance company decides to deny your claim for benefits, it must send you a letter outlining all of the reasons for the denial with specificity.

In some instances, the reason for the denial might be something that is very simple. At other times, your claim for benefits might be denied because you did not include the necessary medical documentation. In order to successfully appeal your claim denial, you must rectify any deficiencies that were present in your initial application packet. Therefore, it is essential that you read and understand the denial letter which the insurance company sends you and that you make the necessary changes.

Appealing the Denial in a Timely Manner

In still other cases, an insurance company may deny your application for long-term disability benefits simply because you did not satisfy all of the necessary time requirements. Insurance companies, by law, must provide you with at least 60 days to file the documentation necessary to administratively appeal a denial decision. However, some insurance companies allow for more than 60 days to file the documentation. Your denial letter will set forth all of these time requirements.

An experienced Arlington long term disability appeals lawyer can ensure that your appeal is filed in a timely manner and that it includes all of the necessary documentation for you to be successful.

Our number-one goal is getting you and your family back to financial security as soon as possible.
