Reasons Why Some Insurance Companies Deny Life Insurance Benefits Claims

There are numerous reasons why an insurance company may deny a claim for life insurance benefits. Some of the most common reasons for life insurance benefits denials include the following:

  • Premium lapses — In order for a life insurance policy to remain in effect, the insured must pay his or her premiums over the lifetime of the policy in a timely manner. If the insured fails to do this, it is entirely possible that the life insurance policy could lapse, in which case the beneficiary would not be able to make a valid claim for benefits once the insured passes away. Prior to terminating benefits, the insurance company is required to let the insured know, in writing, that the policy is about to lapse.
  • Policy exclusions — Insurance companies sometimes deny life insurance benefits payouts when the circumstances that surround the insured’s death fall within an exclusion to the policy. For example, some insurance policies refrain from paying benefits when the insured made a material misrepresentation of fact on the initial application for life insurance benefits. For example, the insured might have failed to disclose a pre-existing illness or medical condition on the initial application.
  • Failing to follow established protocols — Finally, some insurance companies deny life insurance benefits payouts when the beneficiary under the policy fails to follow all of the insurance company’s protocols for making a benefits claim.

Our number-one goal is getting you and your family back to financial security as soon as possible.
