Long Term Disability / Life /
Accidental Death / ERISA

Our past years of representing insurance companies taught us a thing or two about how they work behind the scenes. Let our experience work for you.

Electrocution Accidents at Louisiana Construction Sites

A typical construction site involves electrical equipment and installation in many ways. Even if the construction project itself isn’t being wired for electricity, electrocution accidents can occur from power tools and nearby electrical structures, such as power lines.

Proper safety procedures can prevent most of these electrocution accidents. When these fail and you suffer an injury, you may want to consult with an experienced Louisiana electrocution accident attorney to make sure you are fairly compensated for your damages.

Types of Electrocution Accidents

Construction sites have numerous places where electrocution accidents can take place. Between building materials, equipment, and surrounding structures, you are at risk of being injured in an electrocution accident, even with proper safety measures in place.

Some of the common construction site hazards involving electrocution include:

  • exposed wiring
  • improper grounding or insulation
  • buried cables exposed while digging
  • contact with overhead power lines
  • equipment malfunction
  • improper notice when power is reconnected

Even natural electrocution from a lightning storm may be considered an electrocution accident if you were working in unsafe weather conditions.

Our number-one goal is getting you and your family back to financial security as soon as possible.

Electrocution Accident Injuries

Your body is made up of mostly water, an excellent conductor for electricity. Where your body comes in contact with the electrical shock will impact your injury but even a mild electrical current can cause permanent damage. In the case of grabbing an electrified object, there is a small threshold your body can withstand before a condition called muscle tetany sets in where letting go of the object is physically impossible. This can cause severe burns to the skin and muscle resulting in permanent scarring and damage.

Your internal organs can also suffer damage during an electrocution accident. Cardiac arrest is not uncommon from a severe electrocution accident. Other cardiac damage may also take place following the accident, so it is important to be completely evaluated by a medical profession after even a minor electrocution accident.

Breathing problems are also common electrocution accident injuries, as is damage to the muscles and skeletal systems. Neurological damage such as confusion, loss of consciousness, and amnesia are other possible side effects from an electrocution accident, especially if breathing or cardiac damage is also suffered.
